Bobcat Basketball Tournaments

I’m on a 5th grade competitive basketball team called the Columbia Bobcats.  Several other kids from our school and other Columbia schools are on the team.  Last week we had a tournament in Lebanon, MO, which is a two hour drive from Columbia.  There were four teams in the tournament: us (the Bobcats), the Cobras, a team called Licking, and a team called the Yellow Jackets (they’re from Lebanon).  Anyway, we played the Cobras first.  I don’t know why, but I’m always so tense before the game, so when Ty (our point guard) did a handoff to me of course I drop the ball and they went and scored a layup.  “Great start JACOB!” I thought in my head.  I did not have a great game.  I only scored six points, but Ty had a really good game, and we beat the Cobras 35-15.  Ok, one down two to go.  Next we played Licking.  There’s not much to say about this game because we won 44-0!  So the next game was against the Yellow Jackets.  It was the championship game.  We played pretty good, and we beat them 44-13 and we were the Champs!

Our next tournament was in Linn, MO.  It was a BIG tournament with 12 teams entered.  It was a double elimination tournament, so a team has to lose two games to be out of it.  Our first game was against the Jeff City Cobras.  We beat them 30-21.  We didn’t play that good, but we pulled it off.  Our next game was against Rolla.  They were pretty good, but we shot well and beat them 56-39.  It was my best game yet.  I scored 25 points!  Our next game was against the Columbia Wolverines.  They are a really good team.  We’ve played them twice before and lost both times.  BUT, not today!  We ended up winning 35-34!  It came down to the last 0.6 seconds!

That win put us in the final four.  So next day, we played the also undefeated Falcons.  Our team was off, and we couldn’t make a shot.  We ended up losing 40-29.  Then, we had to play the best team in the tournament, the Mid Mo Elite.  They were really good, and we ended up losing by 15.  Even though we lost our last two games end the tourney, we ended up getting third place out of twelve teams.  After the game, our team had a lot of fun because we played half court knockout, and on the way home we stopped at Central Dairy and I got brownie fudge with M & Ms ice cream.  It was a fun weekend.
