Kayliana: Weekly Update
Weekly Update
Written By: Kayliana Harris
Here is a quick recap of things we have been doing throughout this week.
Writing: In writing we have been working on a piece about colonial times. Each student was assigned to a specific job in colonial times. Then, we researched our job and found out as much information as possible on colonial times. We wrote and typed our body paragraphs. Recently, we have been brainstorming ideas for our introduction paragraph. We have not yet wrote it but we are very close. That is what we have been doing in writing.
Math: In math we have been working hard on fractions. We have learned how to make an equivalent fraction, simplify a fraction, and how to change an improper fraction into a mixed number (and the other way around). Most recently we have learned how to add and subtract fractions. That is what we are currently doing in math.
Social Studies: In social studies we have been learning about colonial times. We are doing a colony simulation. We are in groups that each have their own supplies. We learn about the pros and cons about living in colonial times. Each group has their strengths and weaknesses. We have to suffer from some of the same things colonists had to suffer. That is what we are doing in social studies.
Science: In science we are learning about matter. We have learned about properties of matter, and about how we can measure matter. We are currently learning about what matter is made of. We are also learning about what the molecules in matter do. We learned that molecules in a solid are packed tightly together. The molecules in a liquid can slide around each other. The molecules in a gas move freely. This is what we are learning in science.
Reading: In reading we have been focusing on conferences. We made goals for our third trimester and soon we will be reflecting on our goals and test scores from the second trimester. That is what we have been doing in reading. We can’t wait to see you at conferences!
Thanks for reminding me of what we are doing in school. It kind of floated out!
